PEPPER PRICES MAY INCREASE
India has been importing pepper from Vietnam and Sri Lanka. However, due to India’s recent hike in prices, the import of second and third-quality pepper from Vietnam has slowed down.
Last month, Kerala, one of the major pepper-producing centers, experienced heavy rainfall, resulting in experts estimating a 30-32% crop damage.
Additionally, the cold climate has led to an increase in pepper consumption. As a result, the current prices for pepper in Cochin are at Rs. 580-585 per kilogram, while the best quality is being traded at Rs. 680-700 per kilogram.
With the demand from buyers exceeding arrivals, it is anticipated that pepper prices may further increase.
