Exporters will now have no option but to shift their base outside India, which will affect the prices of other spice items and pave the way to source from the cheapest landed cost.

There are about 20 exporting units operational in the country and with the recent amendments in the pepper import policy, they are now exploring options to set up units in countries like Vietnam, Sri Lanka, Indonesia, etc.- said Gulshan John, Former President of India Pepper and Spice Trade Association.
