Monsoon Hits Kerala: Skymet
Private weather forecasting agency Skymet announces Southwest Monsoon hits Kerala on yesterday ie Monday, marking the arrival of the rainy season in the country.
However, the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the India official weather forecaster, in its 8.15-am bulletin, said Monsoon would hit Kerala in the next 24 hours.
“There are Monsoon-like conditions over Kerala and we can say that the annual rainfall season has arrived,” Skymet CEO Jatin Singh.
The Skymet, in its forecast, said that Monsoon would hit the Kerala coast on May 28, while the IMD has made a prediction for its arrival on May 29.
“The Monsoon is expected to hit Kerala in the next 24 hours,” Mritunjay Mohapatra, Additional Director General, IMD.

On Monday, most places in Kerala and Lakshadweep experineced rainfall. Amini (Lakshadweep) reported an isolated extremely heavy rainfall of 26cm. Heavy rainfall was reported from Agathi (Lakshadweep) -11cm and Konni (Pathanamthitta) -7cm. Other places which reported heavy rainfall included Nilambur & Manjeri (Malappuram), Vaikom (Kottayam), Nedumangad (Thiruvananthapuram) and Chengannur (Alappuzha), which recorded 5cm rainfall each.
