Pepper Vines wilted in Kodagu

Do to heavy rains during last monsoon season in Kodagu,now the pepper vines in parts of Kodagu have started wilting.

Extreme weather conditions like excess rains during monsoon, scorching heat in the Dundalli Gram Panchayat range of Shanivarasanthe has increased the moisture level in soil which lead to the quick wilt of pepper vines.

According to reports hundreds of pepper wines have died in the 15 acres of plantation of one of farmer.About 80 per cent of the farmers in this range have suffered losses.

“The pepper vines would take 8-10 years to give good crops. The loss will not be met. Re-planting of vines on same place is not possible without purification. You can not afford the all this cost” said one farmer
