Cardamom prices slips on fresh arrivals

Cardamom futures on the Multi Commodity Exchange of India were locked in the 4% lower circuit because of new crop arrivals in Kerala as the first and second round of picking is going on, traders said.

“Prices in spot have fallen by over 1,500 rupees (per kg) in just three weeks because of fresh arrivals,” N. Ranganathan, managing director of Idukki-based the Kerala Cardamom Processing and Marketing Co.

Today, arrivals of small cardamom at the auction were pegged at 30 tn, against 27 tn on Friday. Around 80% of the arrivals were from the new crop.
